Carry-On Baggage Policy

  • Allowance: Each passenger is permitted one carry-on bag and one personal item, such as a purse, briefcase, or laptop bag.

  • Size Limitations:

    • Carry-On Bag: Must not exceed 46 linear inches (21.5 x 15.5 x 9 in) or 118 cm (55 x 40 x 23 cm), including handles and wheels.
    • Personal Item: Should be under 36 linear inches (17 x 13 x 6 in) or 92 cm (43 x 33 x 16 cm) and must fit under the seat in front of you.
  • Exempt Items: Items like umbrellas, diaper bags, jackets, duty-free items, and assistive devices (strollers, wheelchairs, crutches) do not count towards the carry-on allowance.

Checked Baggage Policy

  • Allowance: Passengers are allowed one checked bag.

  • Size and Weight Limits:

    • Maximum Size: 62 inches or 158 cm (total of length + width + height).
    • Maximum Weight: 50 pounds or 23 kilograms.

Baggage Fees

  • Domestic Flights:

    • First Bag: USD 30 / CAD 34.49
    • Second Bag: USD 50 / CAD 57.46
  • International Flights:

    • First Bag: Free on some routes.
    • Second Bag: Fees range from USD 50 to USD 100 / CAD 50 to CAD 100, depending on the route.

Excess Baggage Fees

  • Domestic and Caribbean Flights: Additional baggage fee is $225 CAD/US.
  • International Flights: The fee is also $225 CAD/US for each extra bag.

Overweight & Oversize Baggage Fees

  • Overweight Baggage:

    • 51 to 70 pounds (24 to 32 kg): $100 CAD/US extra per bag.
    • Bags over 70 pounds (32 kg) are not accepted as checked baggage.
  • Oversize Baggage:

    • 63 to 115 linear inches (160 to 292 cm): $100 CAD/US extra.
    • Bags over 115 inches (292 cm) are not accepted as checked baggage.

Musical Instruments and Pets

  • Musical Instruments: Can be included in the carry-on allowance if they fit within the size limits. Larger instruments may require purchasing an additional seat at a 50% discount.

  • Pets: Pets are allowed in the cabin if transported in a suitable carrier. Fees range from $50-$59 for domestic flights and $100-$118 for international routes.

Prohibited Items

Certain items are not allowed in carry-on luggage, including:

  • Firearms and fireworks.
  • Compressed gas cylinders.
  • Avalanche rescue backpacks.

Missing Baggage Procedures

If your baggage is missing:

  • Notify the baggage service official immediately.
  • Provide your contact information, baggage description, and boarding pass details.
  • A baggage tracing report will be created for tracking.

Baggage Claim for Damaged or Lost Baggage

To claim damaged or lost baggage, fill out the Air Canada Baggage Claim form with:

  • Booking reference number and ticket number.
  • Flight number and date.
  • Baggage incident report number.

Air Canada may reimburse for essential items until your baggage is returned, provided you submit receipts with your claim.
