Ghorepani Ghandruk Trek Itinerary: A Short Himalayan Adventure for All

The Ghorepani Ghandruk trek itinerary is one of the most loved short treks in Nepal. It’s perfect for people who want to enjoy the beauty of the Himalayas without walking for too many days or going too high. With every step, you move through peaceful villages, green forests, and open mountain views. The sunrise from Poon Hill is the shining star of the journey.

This trek is around 40 kilometers long and reaches a maximum height of 3,210 meters (Poon Hill). It takes about 5 to 6 days of walking, making it ideal for beginners or anyone short on time. Each day brings something new—nature, culture, or the joy of simply being in the mountains.

Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu

Your journey begins with a warm welcome in Kathmandu, the capital city of Nepal. You can rest, explore nearby temples, or prepare for your trek. Kathmandu is full of life, color, and culture, giving your trip a great start.

Day 2: Drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara

The next morning, take a scenic 6 to 7-hour drive to Pokhara, a peaceful city beside a lake and below the mountains. On clear days, you’ll already see peaks like Machapuchare (Fishtail) in the distance. Pokhara is a great place to relax before the trek.

Day 3: Pokhara to Nayapul, Trek to Tikhedhunga (1,570 m)

After a short 1.5-hour drive to Nayapul, your trek begins. The path follows a river and passes farms and tiny villages. The walk to Tikhedhunga takes about 4 to 5 hours and is gentle. You’ll hear birds, cross a bridge, and see green hills all around.

Day 4: Tikhedhunga to Ghorepani (2,860 m)

Today’s walk is a little harder but full of reward. First, you climb over 3,000 stone steps to reach Ulleri, then continue through thick rhododendron forests. If you come in spring, the trees bloom in pink and red. After 6 to 7 hours, you reach Ghorepani, a quiet village with amazing mountain views.

Day 5: Poon Hill Sunrise (3,210 m), Trek to Tadapani (2,630 m)

This is one of the best days of the trek. Start before sunrise and walk about 45 minutes to the top of Poon Hill. From here, the sun rises slowly over mountains like Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, and Machapuchare—a view you won’t forget.

After enjoying the view, return to Ghorepani for breakfast and then continue walking for 5 to 6 hours to Tadapani, passing through forest trails filled with moss and singing birds.

Day 6: Tadapani to Ghandruk (1,940 m)

This part of the trek is easier. It’s a gentle downhill walk of about 3 to 4 hours. You’ll reach Ghandruk, one of the largest and most beautiful Gurung villages. The village has stone houses, a small museum, and close views of Annapurna South and Hiunchuli. It’s the perfect place to relax.

Day 7: Ghandruk to Nayapul, Drive to Pokhara

The final walking day. You hike down from Ghandruk to Nayapul through farms and peaceful trails. It takes about 4 to 5 hours. From Nayapul, a short drive brings you back to Pokhara, where you can enjoy a soft bed and a warm meal.

Day 8: Return to Kathmandu

Head back to Kathmandu by road or air. It’s time to reflect on your journey, full of sights, sounds, and the peaceful rhythm of trekking.

Day 9: Final Departure

Your trek ends here, but the memories of mountain paths, rhododendron forests, and the golden glow of Poon Hill will stay with you. You leave with a happy heart and maybe a new love for walking in nature.
